
New Zealand’s electronic card retail spending increased by 2.6 percent in January according to Statistics New Zealand. This was after December’s decline of 2.3 percent.
The spending categories (industry) showed the following movements: durables up NZ$80m (5.1%); apparel up NZ$13m (3.9%); motor vehicles (excluding petrol), up NZ$1.5m (0.7%); consumables down NZ$7.1m (0.3%); and fuel down NZ$14m (2.5%).
Electronic card retail spending increased by 2.7 percent annually, compared to 4.8 percent in December.

The December 2022 total value of electronic cards spent, which includes the two non-retail categories services and other non-retail, increased by NZ$288million (3.3%)
