The disinflation trend is struggling. Now Wall Street will examine whether improving manufacturing and services activity will fuel price pressures. On Monday, durable goods data from January will reveal that higher borrowing costs are hurting manufacturers. Wall Street will also be receiving a few Fed regional surveys, from Dallas and Richmond. Traders will pay close attention to Wednesday’s ISM manufacturing report and Friday’s Services Index.
Central bank speak will be closely monitored, especially new Fed member Goolsbee’s comments on Tuesday. Jefferson will speak about inflation and the dual mandat on Monday. Waller will discuss the outlook on Thursday. Logan, Bostic and Bowman will speak to us on Friday.
US President Biden will be hosting German Chancellor Scholz at White House. Traders will be watching to see if the US announces any new efforts to support Ukraine, or to impose sanctions on Russia.
